TrustedForm and Jornaya both help lead generators and lead buyers prove that a consumer agreed to be contacted. Each service runs a script on your lead form, records the visitor’s session, and issues a reference (a TrustedForm certificate URL or a Jornaya LeadiD token) that travels with the lead. If a consumer later says they never gave consent, that independent record is your evidence. Which one you use usually depends on what your buyers require, and many sellers use both.
Why proof of consent matters
In the US, the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) restricts calls and texts made with autodialers, prerecorded messages or artificial voices, including AI voices, unless the consumer has given the right prior consent. TCPA claims can carry statutory damages per call or text, so buyers and sellers want clear evidence of consent for every lead. A checkbox value in a database is easy to dispute. An independent third-party record of what the consumer actually saw and did is much stronger.
What is TrustedForm?
TrustedForm is made by ActiveProspect. Its script records the consumer’s session on your form and creates a certificate, identified by a unique certificate URL, that documents details such as when the form was visited and what was on the page. The certificate URL is saved into a hidden field and submitted with the lead.
One detail that catches people out: a TrustedForm certificate is only retained for a short window unless it is claimed. Claiming is usually done by the buyer or seller as part of the lead flow, so it needs to be built into your process, not left to chance.
What is Jornaya?
Jornaya, now part of Verisk, provides the LeadiD script. It witnesses the consumer’s journey on the form and issues a LeadiD token, a unique identifier for that lead event. The token is captured in a hidden field and passed with the lead, and buyers use it to verify the lead’s consent and history.
TrustedForm vs Jornaya at a glance
| Factor | TrustedForm | Jornaya |
|---|---|---|
| Company | ActiveProspect | Verisk |
| What travels with the lead | Certificate URL | LeadiD token |
| How it is captured | Script on the form, saved to a hidden field | Script on the form, saved to a hidden field |
| Main purpose | Documenting consent and the form session | Witnessing consent and the lead event |
| Extra step to watch | Certificates must be claimed to be retained | Token must be present and passed in the buyer’s field |
Do you need both?
Not always. If all your buyers accept one service, one is enough. Many lead sellers run both on the same form, so they can meet every buyer’s requirement without changing forms. The two scripts can run side by side.
Why leads arrive without a certificate or token
Installing the script is easy. Making sure every single lead carries its certificate or token is where most problems happen:
- The script loads late, so a fast visitor submits before it has created a certificate or token.
- A form builder or plugin removes hidden fields it doesn’t recognise.
- A multi-step form loses the value between steps.
- The certificate or token is captured, but never mapped into the lead sent to the buyer.
- TrustedForm certificates are never claimed, so they expire.
Consent language still matters
A certificate proves what was on the page, not that the wording was adequate. Your consent disclosure should be clear, placed near the submit button, and name who will contact the consumer and how. Have your legal team approve it. This article is general information, not legal advice.
Frequently asked questions
Does TrustedForm or Jornaya make me TCPA compliant?
No tool alone makes you compliant. They document consent, which is a key part of compliance, alongside proper consent language, calling practices and legal review.
Can I add TrustedForm or Jornaya to WordPress or landing page builder forms?
Usually, yes, as long as the platform allows custom scripts and hidden fields. Some builders need extra work to keep hidden field values.
What happens to the certificate after the lead is sold?
It is passed to the buyer with the lead. For TrustedForm, the certificate should be claimed so it is retained for future reference.
