Astro Development Services

Content-focused sites built on Astro for near-instant load times and a technical foundation search engines favor.

What Astro web development services actually deliver

Astro web development services build content-focused websites on Astro, a framework that renders pages to plain HTML and sends JavaScript to the browser only where a page genuinely needs it. The result is a marketing site, blog, or documentation hub that loads quickly on phones and gives search engines clean, crawlable markup. It suits businesses whose website is mainly about content and lead generation, not about running an application in the browser.

At 99WebSol we treat Astro as one option among several, not a default. We recommend it when speed and search visibility matter most and the site’s job is to publish, explain, and convert.

Signs an Astro site is the right move

Most businesses don’t go looking for a framework. They go looking for a fix to a site that feels slow, heavy, or hard to grow. These are the situations where Astro tends to be the answer:

  • Your marketing site was built on a page builder or a JavaScript-heavy framework, and it scores poorly on Core Web Vitals even though it’s mostly text and images.
  • You publish a lot of content, such as articles, guides, product documentation, or location pages, and you want each new page to stay as fast as the first.
  • You run a software product and want the marketing site separated from the app, so a release on one never breaks the other.
  • Your current CMS needs constant plugin updates and security patches for a site that rarely changes structure.
  • You already have React or Vue components you’d like to reuse on a public site without shipping a full single-page app.

If your team needs a familiar admin screen with dozens of editors, complex permissions, and a plugin ecosystem, WordPress is often the better fit. If the site is really an online store, Shopify or WooCommerce usually wins. We’ll say so during discovery.

How we approach Astro development

The important decisions on an Astro project happen before any component is written. Getting them right is what keeps the site fast a year after launch, not just on launch day.

Astro or Next.js?

This is the question we’re asked most. Next.js is built around React and shines when a site is part application: logged-in dashboards, personalized pages, or heavy client-side state. Astro starts from the opposite end. Every page is static HTML by default, and interactivity is opted into per component. For a content site, that means less JavaScript to download, parse, and maintain. When a project sits between the two, we look at how much of the site is truly interactive and let that decide.

Static, server, or a mix

Astro can pre-render every page at build time, render pages on request, or do both on the same site. We pre-render anything that doesn’t change per visitor, which is usually most of the site. Server rendering is reserved for pages that need it, such as search results or content that updates too often to rebuild on every change. That choice also shapes hosting, so we settle it early.

Choosing where content lives

Who edits the site matters as much as how it’s built. Developer-led teams are often happiest with Markdown or MDX files in the repository, reviewed like code. Marketing teams usually need a headless CMS with a visual editor, previews, and structured fields so they can publish without touching the codebase. We model content types first, such as posts, case studies, team members, and FAQs, so templates, structured data, and internal linking all come from the same source.

Keeping islands small

Astro’s island model lets you add a pricing calculator, a filterable list, or a booking widget without turning the whole page into an app. The discipline is in keeping those islands few and loading them only when they’re visible or interacted with. We review every interactive component against a simple test: does this need JavaScript, or can HTML and CSS do the job?

What an Astro development engagement looks like

Every project runs through our five stages: Discover, Plan, Design & build, Test & launch, and Support. On an Astro build, discovery includes an inventory of your existing pages and what each one ranks for. Planning produces a content model and URL structure. If you’re moving from WordPress or another CMS, we map every old URL to its new home so rankings and inbound links carry over.

During design and build you work directly with the designers and developers on the project, with regular check-ins rather than a big reveal at the end. Before launch we test on real devices and major browsers, check Core Web Vitals and WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility, and verify metadata, sitemaps, and structured data at the template level.

At handoff you own everything:

  • The full source code in your own repository, written in TypeScript with a documented component structure.
  • Your CMS or content files, with editor accounts set up for your team and a short guide to publishing.
  • Hosting and deployment configured under your account, so a content change triggers a new build automatically.
  • A redirect map and launch checklist, kept for reference when the site grows.

Because the site is built with standard, well-documented tooling, any competent developer can pick it up later. There’s no proprietary layer and no lock-in. If you’d like us to stay on, we can handle updates, monitoring, and new pages after launch.

FAQ

Questions about this service

What is Astro, and why would we use it over WordPress?

Astro is a modern framework optimized for speed and SEO; WordPress is a full CMS. Content-heavy marketing or documentation sites that prioritize speed are often better served by Astro — we'll recommend honestly based on your needs.

Can non-developers edit content?

Yes, when paired with a headless CMS with a proper editor interface — we'll set that up as part of the build.

Is Astro good for e-commerce?

It can work for content-led storefronts, but for full commerce functionality we typically recommend Shopify or WooCommerce instead.

Can you migrate our existing site to Astro?

Yes — we can rebuild content from WordPress or another CMS into a new Astro site.

Do you handle hosting for Astro sites?

Yes, typically on a modern static/edge host suited to Astro's output — we'll recommend one based on your traffic and needs.
