Crowdosity: UI Design & WordPress Development for a Gig Marketplace

Crowdosity connects people who post gigs with people who want to do them. 99WebSol designed its interface and built the WordPress pages.

About the client

Crowdosity is a marketplace that connects people with people: gig creators post work they need done, and gig doers find work that suits them.

The brief

Two-sided marketplaces have to speak to two audiences at once. Crowdosity needed a homepage that explains the idea quickly, a sign-up that doesn’t send people away from the page they are on, and a “How It Works” page that gives gig creators and gig doers their own clear path, without either feeling like an afterthought.

How we built it: design, HTML, then WordPress

Like every custom WordPress project at 99WebSol, this one moved through three stages, each signed off before the next began. Separating them means design decisions are settled before any code is written, and the front end is tested in the browser before it is tied to a CMS.

1. UI design

We designed the interface first: the homepage with its video overlay, the sign-up overlay, the “How It Works” page with separate paths for creators and doers, and the blog homepage. Settling these in design first meant both user journeys were worked out, and agreed with the client, before any code was written.

2. HTML, CSS and JavaScript conversion

The approved designs were converted into responsive HTML, CSS and JavaScript. The video and sign-up overlays were built and tested at this stage, including how they open, close and behave on small screens, so they help visitors sign up instead of getting in their way.

3. Custom WordPress theme

The front end then became a responsive custom WordPress theme. The client manages pages and blog content from the WordPress dashboard, and the overlays and layouts carry over from the approved HTML exactly.

What we delivered

  • Homepage, including a video overlay
  • Sign-up overlay
  • “How It Works” page, with separate paths for gig creators and gig doers
  • Blog homepage

Platform and stack

  • UI design for every page
  • Hand-coded, responsive HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript
  • Custom WordPress theme in PHP, built from the approved HTML
  • Content managed from the WordPress dashboard, with no page builder

The result

Crowdosity launched with separate, clearly signposted journeys for both sides of its marketplace, on a responsive custom WordPress theme the client manages from the dashboard.
